I'd estimate that about 40 to 50 citizens attended Congressman Bartlett's meeting at the Middletown Middle School. There were lots of raw emotions expressed. DTI sent their "A" team this time and they actually gave out some useful information... more than anytime over the last 9 months... I congratulate them for that.
So, here's my brief summary of Congressman Bartlett's meeting:
— Congressman Bartlett's office distributed a 26-page handout that included details about 9 potential sites for the DTI compressor station. Marker Road is listed as DTI's preferred site... along with Jefferson.
— Congressman Bartlett stated that he had met with the FERC and DTI and they all agreed that DTI would "seriously consider" any compressor station site that a citizen group recommended as long as it fit into DTI's operational parameters.
— DTI then defined their operational parameters as within 1/2 mile of their pipeline somewhere between Myersville and Jefferson. When pressed they confirmed that it could be operational feasible to go beyond those communities but that it would cost more.
— Congressman Bartlett wants 4 or 5 people from each community (Jefferson, Middletown and Myersville) to be on a "citizen selection committee" tasked with siting DTI's compressor station in Frederick County. At that point, someone from Point of Rocks commented that the proposed "citizen selection committee" was just going to agree to locate the DTI compressor station in her community instead of their own. She also made the case that the Point of Rocks sites that were presented in Congressman Bartlett's handout were flawed.
— Another audience member respectfully requested that Congressman Bartlett head the "citizen selection committee". The Congressman declined, but did agree to post something on his website in the near future. http://www.bartlett.house.gov/
So, that's a summary from my notes. If anyone has anything to correct, add or comment on... please do.
