First impression...

On December 29, 2008 Dominion purchased the Marker Road property! Previously Dominion stated that they responded to the issues raised at the February scoping meeting and during the FERC comment period for the proposed Middletown site... seems like there are no problems that DTI can't overcome. This forum was created so that DTI's responses can be discussed.

Interesting reading! Seems like there are no issues that can't be mitigated. I did notice that they propose constructing a new access road at the corner of Marker and Bolivar...

So does this mean they are leaning toward Middletown over Jefferson again? Is there anything else we can do to stop this?

As DTI has stated, the Marker RD site continues to be under consideration. Currently it is #2 (behind Jefferson) on DTI's list... so that hasn't changed. DTI will probably keep Marker RD on their list as long as they can. From their perspective, it is good to have an alternative in case something comes up with their current first choice.

At this point CPMV and our supporters have a couple of options:
1. Sit back, do nothing and hope that DTI goes elsewhere.
2. Stay involved, review and comment on the adequacy of DTI's response document. In other words keep the pressure on.
3. Continue to advocate for industrial facilities being built on land that is zoned industrial. This position also supports the Jefferson community.

Personally I'm in favor of options #2 and #3... any thoughts?

I certainly echo what you've said Rich; #2 and #3. We need to remain vigilant. We need to listen to everything that is being proposed in Jefferson. The CPMV is remaining neutral, as our motto is "industial use on industrial zoned land" and ultimately that is where we would like to see this built. Middletown (Marker Rd) may not be their primary spot now, but there is nothing to stop them from coming back here.

I agree that those who oppose the Marker Rd. site need to reactivate: suggest we put our signs back out (it's not over til it is over)-- communicate with neighbors & let them know DTI is holding onto the property, possibly writing individual letters to at least reaffirm our concerns and thank the BOCC for their support.

Also, Mr. Considine's letter & investigations of a range of possible sites (on the homepage) is a must-see for anyone who has not been plugged in for awhile- and what an impressive amount of work! Thanks so much, Mr. Considine.

Petition?

Postby prairiegrass » Thu Aug 07, 2008 11:32 am

I am skipping in & out here, so am not sure how much has been done on #2 & #3, but just got the idea of an online petition supporting both of the above (both reaffirming the inadequacy of the Marker Rd. site and the need to site industry on industrial sites). This will allow CMPV an opportunity to demonstrate we are alive & kicking and are still keeping an eye on things. Then the petition could be sent to all relevant parties (DTI, county reps, etc.) My sense is the need to sign the petition could be considered "urgent" and members could also maybe get neighbors, friends, relatives, etc. to sign-in. This is easier than asking everyone to contact the players one-on-one.

prairiegrass,

I'm not seeing much interest in this issue anymore. Maybe (hopefully) the threat has passed. I'm guessing that most people assume that someone else will pay attention and sound the alarm if DTI moves forward on Marker road. DTI's July status report should be out next week, so maybe we'll learn something then...
