Have you ever heard of "Marylanders for Reliable Power"? http://www.forreliablepower.org/

You will! Here's a FNP article about them:
http://www.fredericknewspost.com/sections/business/display.htm?StoryID=76739

You will see full-page advertisements from them in the local papers, and slick messaging pieces in the coming months. They are "part" of the "Coalition for Reliable Power". This is from their mission statement: "The need to rebuild and expand our nation's aging electric infrastructure has reached crisis proportions."

So, who funds them? What is their purpose? Why were they created just as the PATH transmission line became public knowledge? And most importantly, who could be against "reliable power"? Or, "Clean Skys"... "Healthy Forests"... or even "Citizens for the Preservation of Middletown Valley" for that matter :)

PATH (American Electric Power (AEP) and Allegheny Energy) is putting on the charm offensive. DTI could learn a lot from them!

1. They held an "Open House" in Frederick on June 17 to introduce the project AND to survey the community about potential transmission line routes. As a community we need to respond and let PATH know what is special about our part of the county! More to come on this...

2. Their representatives claim that the survey results will influence their routing decisions for the transmission line. If true, I commend them.

3. They have engaged in discussion with 20+ (as yet, unnamed) "key stakeholder" groups to learn about our County.

4. In mid August PATH will present to the community various optional routes that their transmission line could take as it crosses our County and ask for comment.

Let me be honest, we need the electrical grid... when I flip a switch... I want my lights to come on.... and I'm not ready to turn off the AC and go "old school" :) However, do you ever feel that by living in a rural area you have a bulls-eye target for development on you? Sometimes, I feel that way...

To view PATH's advertisements, go to this page:http://www.pathtransmission.com/ads.asp

I have to admit that they are very effective. Your choice will be simple... either you let them build transmission lines across your neighborhood... or the electricity won't be there when you flip a switch. Resistance is futile :)
